Explore the Sacred Valley.

Enjoy a full day tour in the Sacred Valley exploring Maras and Moray.

Moray’s archaeological vestiges are composed of mysterious concentric circular terraces which, according to some scholars, could be an agricultural research centre. The higher external terraces would be at a higher temperature than the inner ones and could simulate the conditions of various ecological strata of the empire.

See the famous salt pans of Maras (Salineras). Here, more than 5,000 terraces are still in production, and many families of Maras bring their salt to the market of Urubamba on mules. Even at these present times, the locals practice rituals of payment to the Pacha Mama. The production of salt continues from ancient times through the vaporization of their wells and community work.

Visit Ollantaytambo.

We are heading to Ollantaytambo today, where you will find the best surviving example of Incan town planning. Many of the building foundations in old town Ollantaytambo were built by the Inca, and the majority of the Inca canchas, or blocks, are still intact, making for a nice walk.

The snowcapped mountain surroundings make for a most picturesque setting. Because of its strategic location in the Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo became a prime centre within the Inca Empire. The Ollantaytambo Fortress was first a place of worship, as well as a location for studying astronomy.

After lunch at El Albergue Hotel’s restaurant, you will be transferred to the Ollantaytambo train station for your train journey to Aguas Calientes aboard the PeruRail Vistadome train. Upon arrival, you will be met and escorted to your hotel.

For many trekkers, climbing Huayna Picchu is one of the highlights of a visit to Machu Picchu.
